Ganga Sagar is located in the Indian state of West Bengal and can be reached from Kolkata by multiple modes of transportation:

By Road:

You can take a bus or hire a taxi from Kolkata to reach Gangasagar, which is approximately 140 km away and takes around 4 hours to reach.

The ideal route is to travel from Kolkata along Diamond Harbour Road. You will need to travel about 90 kilometres to get to the Harwood ferry port in Kakdwip (from Kolkata’s Esplanade bus Terminus). If you are driving a private vehicle, you can leave Shirakol and turn onto the bypass road. You must turn right onto that road at Usthi Bazar before turning left again after 100 metres, which will take you to Hotuganj. By taking this route, you can avoid Dimond Harbor City and cut your travel time by at least an hour and 10 kilometres. This road will take you to Lot No. 8, popularly known as Harwood Point. Please ask the locals about the several jetty ghats.

By Rail:

You can take a train from Kolkata’s Howrah railway station to Namkhana railway station, which is the nearest railway station to Gangasagar. From Namkhana, you can take a local mode of transportation such as a taxi or a shared auto-rickshaw to reach Gangasagar.

Howrah and Sealdah stations provide excellent connectivity between Kolkata and the rest of India. The largest and second busiest station in India is Howrah Station, with Sealdah Station being the busiest.

To visit Sagar Island, take a local train from Sealdah Stn’s south terminus to Kakdwip/Namkhana Stn. Three direct trains departing from Kakdwip (Namkhana Locals) each morning at 4 am, 5 am, and 7 am are available. These direct trains arrive at Kakdwip station in about 2 hours and 25 minutes. By train, Kakdwip is 95 kilometres away from Sealdah.

Please be aware that the same train frequently travels to Namkhana from Sealdaha to Laksmikantapur, where all local passengers change boards once they arrive. Return
